Cherokee Landing TT

Cherokee Landing is a peaceful preserve with valleys and hills that provide a perfect backdrop to the scenic lake, pond and trees.  At least that is what the brochure says.  Cherokee Landing Thousand Trails is located about 65 east of Memphis just on the Tennessee and Mississippi border.  It has 296 campsites and 30 rental cabins.  A lake, pond and all the amenities that TT RV resorts have.  What it does not have is people.  There are probably only about 10 RVs here right now.  It is a bit more rustic than other Thousand Trails and I think we were fortunate enough to get one of the nicest sites in the resort.  We are completely by ourselves with the closet camper way up the hill.  It is peaceful and very quiet.  I did love watching the fireflies last night.  For being as rustic as it is there is a nice pool and the rental cabins are not bad.  If you would like to see more pictures of this place go to Picasa and search for my name.  I am in the middle of creating a slide show.  It will be posted later this afternoon.  We have free WiFi in the lodge and we have our WiFi but both are weak so it takes a long time to download things.  There is one special thing about this place and that is the 'Legend of Cherokee Landing'.  The legend started back in the 1800s when the Cherokee Indians occupied this land.  Chief Wind Hawk and his squaw, Bird Song, loved this land and it was home.  Then the U.S. Government started moving the Native Americans to Oklahoma, The Trail of Tears, and the Chief's tribe was sad.  The trip was difficult and Bird Song became ill on the trip.  When they got to Oklahoma they were very disappointed in the land.  Bird Song was getting worse.  Chief Wind Hawk decided to take Bird Song back home and left his tribe in the hands of his son, Blue Sky.  With the medicine man, Wind Hawk and Bird Song left to go back to this area of Tennessee.  When they returned Bird Song did not get better and died.  Chief Wind Hawk began to cry and his tears led to the Lake here at Cherokee Landing.  One night, the Chief told his Medicine Man that when he dies he wants to be part of the birds living here.  The Medicine Man made that so after the Chief's death a couple of years later.  One night, sitting around a fire, the Medicine Man had a Whippoorwill come and sing to him and in the song he heard the Chief saying, "We will live".  They say at night, if you are really quiet, you can hear that saying whispered in the trees due to Chief Wind Hawk's spirit that is alive and well at Cherokee Landing.  I'll let you know when I hear it!
