It is "Exploration Wednesday"! What does this mean? Tim and I are going to go exploring for the odd tourist attractions today that Alamogordo boasts. I think we will be successful because without even knowing it I came across two signs that look like rockets. In the 50's and 60's Alamogordo was known as "Rocket City" due to all of the tests and research that was taken place at Holloman AFB. I posted two rocket sign pictures. The top picture is easy to see that it is a rocket. It is located in front of a strip mall and at present time advertising nothing but originally it advertised a Lounge. The second sign is located just outside of Alamogordo (between Holloman AFB & Alamogordo) and I am not sure what it use to advertise but now it is advertising an empty building. In it's time, it would have been a cool looking sign. Since Alamogordo was such a big tourist town in the 50's and 60's there are some amazing neon signs and advertising items that you don't see now a day. I use to see this type of advertising when I was growing up and traveling on family vacations.
Yesterday we made our short roadtrip and in an hour's time we were able to break down our campsite, move and set up our campsite. We then came over to Jenny's and Nathan's house (which is now one block away from us) to do some items around their house. We had another night of weird weather. There were storms with lightning, thunder and rain completely surrounding us but never even had a drop of rain fall over us. It is almost like Holloman AFB has this big bubble over it to keep the storms away. It was neat to stand out and look at the storms surrounding us but I did not have my camera with me so I used my camera in my cell phone. I don't have a smart phone but I will figure out a way to post the pictures. Check back tomorrow for the storm pictures and what I find as I am exploring today!
