The Silver Strand is a low narrow sandy isthmus that is 7 miles long in San Diego County that is also referred as "the Strand" by the locals. It connects Coronado Island with Imperial Beach. Together with the Point Loma Peninsula it shelters and defines the San Diego Bay. State Hwy 75 runs the length of the strand and is a popular site for jogging and bicycling. There is a 1/2 marathon annual run on the strand each year.
Silver Strand State Beach is located about 4 1/2 miles south of Coronado and encompasses both the San Diego Bay and the Pacific Ocean. It has about 2 1/2 miles of beach on the Pacific side and because of its location is a quiet beach away from the crowds but offers many activities such as camping, fishing, swimming, surfing, beach volleyball and water skiing.
The beaches north and south of the State Beach are military property and house the Naval Amphibious Base Coronado and the Silver Stand Training Complex both known as the home and training grounds for the U.S. Navy SEALS.
Tim and I traveled the Strand almost every day we when lived here. It is a beautiful stretch of land that has some amazing views of the Pacific Ocean and the San Diego Bay. You can see the shipyards and the Naval and Marine Ships in the bay and observe some of the SEALS training on the Ocean side. The Strand has some beautiful homes along with Navy housing on it. When flying into San Diego the Strand looks even more beauiful and an amazing sight.
Yesterday, Pam and I had a great time at the stamping event and made some great cards and projects. I met some very nice people and once again, I have to say, how friendly Californians are. By the end of the event I felt like I had known many of the ladies for a while.
Today, we are taking my Mom to brunch and then will have to see what the rest of the day will bring. Tomorrow, we move back up to Oceanside, CA!
