Bon Fire On The Beach

Last night, Tim and I went to the beach in Carlsbad, CA with my sister and brother in law and their friends and neighbors.  It was a cool night so long sleeves and jackets were needed. We had a great time.  My sister's friends brought a fire pit to the beach and built a nice fire.  Everyone brought stuff to share for dinner. We roasted Hot dogs and Brats over the fire and later Marshmellows.  It was a beautiful night.  The sunset was nice even with the low laying clouds.  There was a special phenmenom going on with the ocean last night.  Red Tide, when algae accumulates rapidly in the water column that results in discolorization of the surface water, has moved into the area.  This occurs every few years.  During the day it causes the ocean waves to have a red tint in them but at night it turns a fluorescent blue and glows as the waves begin to break.  It is an amazing sight especially looking up and down the coast watching the fluorescent blue lightshow going on.  It was a great night with good food, great company,  a warm fire and the lightshow.
Today, my sister, Pam, and I are taking our Mom to Coronado Island for the day.  We will visit the Hotel Del Coronado and have lunch while we are there.  It will be good to see the Hotel Del again up close and not just  in passing.  The Hotel opened in 1888 and at that time was the largest resort hotel in the world and the first to have electrical lighting.  It is a beautiful hotel and it should be a fun day!
