Flafstaff, AZ

Flagstaff, AZ is in Coconino County in northern Arizona.  It is the county seat and is also home to Northern Arizona University and the San Francisco Peaks.  It sits at 7000 ft about sea level with a population of 65,870.  Its median income is $37,200 with a median age of 27.  Flagstaff was named after a Ponderosa Pine Flagpole.  The flagpole was made by a Boston scouting party that was in the area on July 4, 1876. In the 1880s the Railroad came to Flagstaff and it became a main hub for the area for the Railroad.  In 1899 Northern Arizona Normal School was started and in 1966 the name was perminently changed to Northern Arizona University.  Route 66 was completed through Flastaff in 1926 and Flagstaff was incorporated as a city in 1928.  The first motel was opened in 1929 called the Motel Du Beau.  Today, Flagstaff's economy is lumber, the railroad and ranching.  It is a strong tourism area due to its location near the Grand Canyon, Sedona, Oak Creek Canyon, Arizona Snowbowl, Meteor Crater and Route 66.
Flagstaff has really grown  in the last 30 years and is a great city to live in.  It has almost everything you need especially the attractions surrounding its area.  I have always been fond of Flagstaff and have said I could live there.  I think I still could but I would have to get use to the snow again.  I am glad we got to see Flagstaff before it snowed and then after it snowed.  I have posted some pictures of the snow and the San Francisco Peaks.
We are in Sierra Vista, AZ and we are staying at Fort Huachuca which has been an Army post since 1877.  It is a historical site due to its involvement with Geronimo and the Buffalo Soldier.  We will be touring the base and Sierra Vista today then going to Tombstone and Bisbee in the next couple of days.  I can also say we are officially on our way home now that we are on I-10 East.  We still have a few more stops to go but should be pulling into Jacksonville on December 1st.  For now, we are going to continue our journey East.
