Buffalo Grove, IL

Buffalo Grove, IL is a village that is located in two counties, Lake and Cook counties.  The population is 43,195 with a median income of $83,500 and a median age of 37.  Originally the town was known as Buffalo Creek when is was founded in 1833 after the Treaty of Chicago was completed due to the Ojibwa, Ottawa and Potawatomi Indians ceded their Illinois land to the U.S.  It is said when the English, French and Potawatomi Indians were ranging the land in northeast Illinois that Buffalo were seen roaming the land in what is now the Buffalo Grove area.  Also, a Buffalo Skeleton was found by the settlers and named the town for the buffalo.  In the 1830s the first settlers arrived and in the 1840s the land was sold to German Catholic dairy farmers.  It is believed that Buffalo Grove was founded by either Melchoir Raupp and/or Jacob Weidner.  It is not clear when the name changed from Buffalo Creek to Buffalo Grove.  It became a key farming area that gained a special reputation for supplying milk, cheese and other dairy products to Chicago.  The Weidner Cheese Factory was one of the key settlements.  Electricity was brought to Buffalo Grove farmers in 1926 and and the first concrete road in northern Illinois was built in Buffalo Grove in 1930.  It was and is Dundee Road.  After WW II, Buffalo Grove became a new residential community for returning GIs with homes listed for as little as $16,000.  It continued to grow as a residential community with a boom in the 1980s and 1990s.
We were in Buffalo Grove to visit my niece, Nicki and Dave and their son, James who is two years old now..  They have a beautiful home and we spent a great afternoon and evening with them.  James is so adorable and is full of life, although the poor guy had a cold.  It was so good to be with Nicki and Dave again and we enjoyed our time together.  We will be seeing them again next week end and we are golfing with Dave on Thursday.  Nicki has always had a special place in my heart.  When she was a baby and little girl  we spent a lot of time together.  She was my flower girl in my wedding and nearly got more attention than I did coming down the aisle.   It was good to be together again and we look forward to spending even more time with them before we leave.  Thanks Nicki, Dave and James for a great day!
