DMV - Department of Motor Vehicles
I had the pleasure yesterday to visit the California DMV and all I can say is that it sure makes me appreciate the Florida DMV. No one likes to wait in line especially at the DMV so I made an appointment for my Mother to get a California I.D. card. We got there early for the appointment and when we walked in everything seemed pretty orderly. I got into the appointments line and when I reached the counter I told the clerk I had an appointment. I was handed paperwork to fill out and was told to have a seat. When I thought I had filled out all the paperwork I took it back to the clerk where she looked at the paperwork, circled several areas that were not completed (hidden on a third page of the paperwork) then gave the paperwork back and pointed to my chair. I then finished all the paperwork this time, returned to the clerk where she informed me the computers were down so we had to wait. I then had asked if could I reschedule the appointment because I did not want to wait for the computers to come back on line. When I received the 'death look' from the clerk I sat down in my chair again, looked at the paperwork I had filled out, and saw an "F" was placed on the top. What, did I flunk the paperwork? I later found out that the "F" meant no fee for my mom's I.D. 20 minutes later the computers came back on line and all of the 10:00 appointments were asked to get in line. I got back in line and when it was finally my turn I found out that I needed to have a copy of my mother's marriage certificate if she wanted to use her married name and that the official copy of her birth certificate was not official enough and to bring back the correct one. So, after spending over an hour in the DMV my mother and I walked as we walked in; without a California I.D. The DMV experience made me appreciate Florida's DMV so much! If I were keeping score it would be 1 to 0 DMV. Round two starts in two weeks!
