So, we are still here on the mainland with a wealth of new knowledge and a few less dollars in our pocket. Yesterday was another disappointing day. We were so close to leaving; we were checked in, our baggage was on the baggage cart and we had a "boarding pass" and for 30 glorious minutes we thought we were going to make it. While we were waiting to check in all Active Duty personnel were called up first. It looked good for awhile with two or three families and then we got to check in. Then all of a sudden a mad rush of one big Active Duty family after another came to check in and our chances were dropping. Just a note, I have no problem with Active Duty getting priority when flying these hops I just wish we did not get checked in. About 9:15 we heard the announcement, "There will be NO Retired Military going on this flight today." It was then followed with that not all Active Duty will make it either. So, heartbroken, we went outside to the tarmac to get our luggage and we left. No one ever wants to call up their children with bad news and Friday morning's call was bad enough but to have to do it for a second day was heart wrenching. So, after we left the base we drove to Mission Bay, a waterfront park in San Diego, and got out our mifi, got on the computer and bought tickets to Hawaii on United Air Lines. We leave Tuesday morning at 6:25 and should be in Honolulu, Hawaii by noon, Hawaii time.
While we were at Mission Bay I took some pictures. Mission Bay's water level is way down but it is still a beautiful park and it was being enjoyed by a lot of people on a sunny Saturday morning.
So, we have two days to go and we will finally be in Hawaii to see our daughter and son in law Jenny and Nathan. Aloha is coming soon!
