El Cajon is a city in San Diego County located inland and in the foothills of the mountains surrounding San Diego. It is called "The Big Box" which is what El Cajon means when translasted from Spanish to English. It originally was located on the Rancho El Cajon Mexican land grant made in 1845 to Maria Antonia Estuditio the wife of Miguel Pedrorena, an wealthy early settler from Peru. In 1876 Amaziah Lord Knox, a New Englander, established a hotel to serve the growing number of people traveling between San Diego and Julian where gold had been discovered in 1869. Room and board for a guest and horse cost $1.00 a night. The area became known as Knox's Corner but was later renamed to El Cajon and was incorporated as a city in 1912. It's population is 99,478 with a median income of $35,600 and a median age of 32. Tim and I drove to El Cajon to get the truck damage estimated from the accident a week ago. We finally got the police report so we could contact his insurance company to get the ball rolling.
Today we are headed back up north to the Carlsbad/Oceanside area to take my mother to a Doctor's appointment and then have dinner with my mom, sister and brother in law. I have also posted some pictures from Sunday of Dana Point harbor and my brother's boat.
