Pio Pico Thousand Trails in Jamul, CA

Our new home for the next 11 days is at the Pio Pico Campground in Jamul, CA. It is about 25 miles east of San Diego in the mountains and about 60 miles from Carlsbad. Being inland it is a little warmer than being on the coast and a lot less people. The campground is 180 acres and has a lot to do. There is a nice general store fully stocked with everything you could need. There are two pools and a jacuzzi, an 18 hole miniature golf course, a youth center with recreations games, a large Activity center with a cafe that serves breakfast, lunch and dinner and has special events going on every week end and beautiful landscape. It is in a valley surrounded by mountains which means no cell phone coverage. It is one of the nicer Thousand Trails and very popular.
Jamul, Ca is the town the campground is located in. Jamul has a population of 6164 and is about 16.8 square miles. The median income is $32,450 with the median age of 39. The CDP median income is $87,300 with a median age of 44. The CDP, Census-designed place, is a concentration of population identified by the U.S. Census Bureau. CDP's are populated areas that lack separate municipal government but which otherwise physically resemble incorporated places. In other words, San Diego County. Jamul is a very small town with a major controversary that has been going on for years. There is an indian reservation near by and the Indians would like to build a casino on the Jamul border. Jamul does not want a casino build. For years, the citizens of Jamul have been fighting the Indian reservation, mostly in court, to keep the casino from being built. When you drive through Jamul almost every business has a sign posted somewhere saying, "No casino in Jamul". The controversary will continue for years!
