Encinitas, CA

Encititas, CA is about 25 miles north of San Diego. It was incorporated in 1986 from the communities of historic Encinitas. Currently it is divided into five regions: Old Encinitas which is a small beachside area, New Encinitas which is the newest region featuring golf courses , Olivehain is a semi rural region mostly composed of homes, Leucadia which is the older community of the city and Cardiff By The Sea which is the southern most oceanfront community. The Population of Encinitas is 59,500 with a median income of $68,000 and a median age of 38.
Cardiff by the Sea, also known as Cardiff, has its own zipcode eventhough it is part of Encinitas. In 1911, Cardiff which was a farming community began to get developed. J Frank Cullen broke ground to develop neighborhoods and build houses. His wife was from Cardiff, Wales and persuaded him to call the area Cardiff by the Sea. Cardiff's streets are all named after British cities or classical composers. Cardiff is also one of the most popular places to surf due to the Cardiff Reef. During low tide you can see the rock reef which extends 50 yards from shore. That reef produces waves that both professional and novice surfers can enjoy. In the 1950's only a few surfers used this area for surfing but currently it is the most popular area to surf in the San Diego area. Pipes are famous for their smooth and consistent wave shape. Tim and I were in Encinitas on Wednesday to have lunch and take my mom to a Doctor's appointment.
Today I will be hanging out at my sister's house. We have a stamping event tomorrow in Poway,CA so I am once again spending the week end here in Carlsbad.
