Yesterday, after 48 days of traveling, we have reached the first half of our trip. We are in Oceanside, CA staying at the Oasis Campground on Camp Pendleton Marine Corp. base. Camp Pendleton is the major West Coast base of the U.S. Marine Corp. and serves as its prime amphibias base. Established in 1942 by 1944 it was declared a "permanent installation" and by 1946 it became the home of the 1st Marine Division. The base has diverse geography spanning over 125,000 acres. On the base you will find beaches, bluffs, mesas, canyons, mountains and the only free flowing river in Southern Califonia. There are over 38,000 families that live in base housing and on an average day over 70,000 people are on Camp Pendleton.
We went to my Mom's new place. It is a beautiful retirement center where she has her own little studio apartment. The facility is amazing. The common areas are well decorated and you feel like you are in elegant livingrooms not a retirement facility. I can see why she loves the place and making new friends. My sister lives about 20 minutes from my mom so she met us at the center. We had a great time all together and since we are going to be in the area for at least a month there is plenty of time to enjoy eachother's company.
Today, we are going to begin unpacking the items we brought for my mom. Her new place is so nice I am not sure she will want anything we brought. She will have to decide this. Just call today, moving day, for us. However, it may have to wait a little bit. It is actually raining in Southern California. You have heard the song, "it never rains in California", and it usually does not; except today!
