Poway, CA

Yesterday Pam and I went to Poway for a stamping event at a good friend's house. She lives in a beautiful home in Poway and held a terrific event with great cards and projects. Thanks Gail, it was great. I also was able to get together with some dear friends that I only get to see once a year! It was a fun day and the best part is that I actually got to stamp with Pam.
Poway lies geographically in the middle of San Diego County but is considered to be in North County. It orginally was an unincorporated community in San Diego County until 1980 when it became a city. Known as "The City in the Country" it is a beautiful city and very quaint. Old Poway is a rustic area that makes you feel like you are back in the late 1800's. Walking around Old Poway is very relaxing. There is an annual festival, Poway Days, held each year. This year is the 49th celebration and was going on this week end. It is a two week festival which started last Sunday September 11th and runs through next Sunday September 25th.
Poway has a history starting back in the 16th century but its contempory history started in the late 18th century. In 1828 it was refered as Paguay which translates as the meeting of little valleys. The are several renditions of the name and it eventually progressed into its current name of Poway. It had become a farming community and in 1887 Poway's population grew to over 800. Over the next several decades Poway had a static growth until 1954 when it really became a city and just continued to grow. Currently, Poway is a residential community of San Diego. The population of Poway is 47,800 with a median income of $78,300 and median age of 37. Poway has one of the best school districts in California. When you are in the San Diego area it is well worth a trip to Poway and especially Old Poway. If you plan a trip in September make sure you come during Poway Days.
After the event and our return to Carlsbad, Pam and Brian took me to BJ's for dinner. BJ's is a micro brewery restaurant that serves good food in a fun atmosphere. It was a good day!
Today I will be heading back to Jamul after spending some more time with Pam, Brian, and my Mom. This week, Tim and I will be doing some sightseeing in San Diego so check back and see what we did!
