Cortez Hill, Columbia & the Core

Cortez Hill named after the historic El Cortez Hotel,  is one of San Diego's oldest residential neighborhoods.  It is almost two neighborhoods in one.  East of 6th Ave lies the downtown's highest land mass.  The hill dominated by the El Cortez Condo, formally the El Cortez Hotel and  West of 6th Ave is known as Cortez West.  The hill has drwan residents for over a century and some Victorian style dwellings of the first settlers are still there.  The El Cortez Hotel was built in 1926-1927.  It was the highest building in San Diego at that time and remained that way for decades.  From 1927- the 1950's it was the most glamorous apartment hotel.  It was the first in the world to install a glass elevator on the outside of the building and the first to have motorized movement sidewalks.
Colunbia nieghborhood is largely commercial however there are a large number of highrise condominium buildings under construction right now.  The city officials are predicting that San Diego will double it's population within the next decade and the Colunbia neighborhood will me the next place to grow residentially.
The Core Neighborhood is the central business district in  Downtown San Diego.  It is the center for San Diego's regional government and corporate hubs, small business administration building and the world trade center.  Highrise condos are also being built in this area.
Today, we are on the road again.  We are headed to Menifee, CA. It is about 48 miles northeast of Oceanside, CA,  We will be staying at the Wilderness Trails Thousand Trails campground.  We will be there for two weeks and during our stay we have some new adventures planned for things in the surrounding area.  Check back and see where we go!
