A Day At Hollywood Studios

We had a great day at Hollywood Studios and we got to experience Christmas for one more day since the park was still decorated.  Hollywood Studios is one of the most popular places to visit during the Christmas season due to the Osborne Spectacle of Dancing Lights.  It has been a tradition at Hollywood Studios since 1995.  In 1986 Jennings and Mitzi Osborne, an Arkansas businessman, had a request from their six year old daughter, Breezy.  She asked her parents to decorate the house with Christmas lights.  That first year Jennings put up 1000 lights around his house.  Every year after that the Lights and decorations grew.  He had built up so many lights to display he had to buy two properties to help display all the lights.  By 1993 the display had grown to over three million lights.  His neighbors did not enjoy the lights display and eventually filed a lawsuit where the lighs were only allowed to be displayed for 15 days from the 7:30 pm to 10:00 pm.  Osborne was not happy about it and fought the lawsuit but lost and the lights were ordered to be turned off for good.  Disney heard about the lawsuit and contacted Osborne about his light displays.  Osborne and Disney made a deal and the rest is history.  Disney has built the light display up to over five million lights.  The Osborne Spectacle of Dancing Lights is displayed near the backlot in Hollywood Studios and is absolutely "SPECTACULAR"!  The display is made up of 10 miles of rope lighting connected to 30 miles of extension cords.  It takes 20,000 man hours to install the display and requires 800,000 watts of electricity.  If you have not seen this display then this should be part of your bucket list.  Pictures cannot do it justice.  Standing in the middle of the street with the lights dancing to Christmas music and snow falling on you can put you into the Christmas spirit even 13 days after Christmas.  I will be posting a slideshow this afternoon with the lights.
We did go on several rides and saw several shows while visiting Hollywood Studios.  It is a great park for entertainment and even has a few big rides like Tower of Terror and Rockin Rollercoaster.  It also had a new Toy Story ride which is a lot of fun.  The shows are entertaining even when you have seen them a few times.  We were suppose to eat as Mama Melrose's but decided to skip it and enjoy a couple of snacks instead.  The weather was perfect (75 degrees) but it did seem weird to look at the Christmas lights with snow falling on you when you are in short sleeves.  Ah, the magic of Disney mixed with the Florida weather...what an experience!
