Fort Myers Beach, FL

We made it to Fort Myers Beach and it was worth waiting out the weather!  Fort Myers Beach is located on Estero Island and San Carlos Island.  The beach is on Estero Island.  The population of Fort Myers Beach is  6561 with a median income of $ 48,045 and a median age of 59.  Fort Myers Beach is 6.2 square miles with 3.3 square miles of it being water.  Main Street is like any other beach town but  Time Square is a nice area with the clock in the middle of the square; that is why it is called Time Square.  To the west of the clock is the Gulf of Mexico, beach and fishing pier.  To the east is Main Street.  North and South is shops, hotels and restaurants/bars.  It is only a few blocks but that is big enough since the real reason people come to Fort Myers Beach is to use the beach.  It was busy!  The white sugar sand is beautiful along the Gulf.  There were not a lot of shells but there is a lot of play area! There were sand castles being built, foot ball games, frisbee, skin boarding, beach volleyball, parasailing, and more.  We walked on the beach with Shadow and he loved it.  We did not let him get into the water because he trys to drink it and then gets sick.  He had fun in the sand and greeting other dogs and people while we walked.  It was a beautiful day, about 80 degrees, with a nice ocean breeze.  We had lunch at Plaka Greek Restaurant on the beach in Time Square.  They have a doggy area fenced in so you can enjoy your lunch with your dog sitting with you.  The food was good and the atmosphere was wonderful.  We looked at some shops and managed to find some pirate cut outs for pictures.  We had a good day at Fort Myers Beach.
Today we will be hanging around the RV Resort.  Pioneer Days is going on and we have yet to check out the festivities so we will be doing that today!  Tomorrow we leave Fort Myers and head to Wauchula for a couple of days and then to Orlando for a couple of weeks.  We have enjoyed our time here in Fort Myers and will definately be back some day!
