Historic Buildings in White Springs, FL

I spent some time in White Spirngs yestereday doing laundry at Bud's Suds.  It is a very nice laundermat that is reasonably priced.  It is right next store to our favorite restaurant in White Springs; Fat Belly's.  After I finished the laundry Tim and I drove around town and took some pictures of the historic buildings in White Springs.  I have posted two pictures; The Adams Country Store, which is my favorite building in White Springs and the Telford Hotel.
The Adams Country Store was originally built in 1885 was the country store for White Springs until 1971 when it closed.  It now has a new owner who is working on restoring it back to life.  In March, for one day, the store was opened after 40 years to the public.  It had exhibits of old newspaper clippings of White Springs along with its original interior.  The building is in good shape with its wooden floors and antique furnishings.  There is an old steel door in the back of the building and an antique National cash register in a caged area along with an adding machine and a pencil sharpener still attached to the counter.  There were some examples of the products sold and its prices.  A bar of soap was 10 cents, a bag of sugar was 25 cents and a pair of shoes were $4.00.  To me the building is beautiful and I would love to restore it and reopen it as a true general store.
The Telford Hotel, built in 1902, is a great example of fine stone and brick building that was the first masonry hotel built in White Springs.  It was built with available river rock hauled by mule teams from the Suwannee river and brick from Georgia.  It is the only remaining hotel from the 15 hotels that flourished in White Springs at the turn of the century.  When it was completed in 1902 it had its own acetylene powered lighting system and its own water plant.  Today it is a Bed and Breakfast with a restaurant that serves lunch during the week and lunch and dinner on the week ends.
I will be creating a slideshow of the historic buildings in White Springs and will post it as soon as it is completed.  Today we woke up to it be 19 degrees outside.  It is going to be a littel chilly today so it will be a good day to take a ride or just stay in and get things ready for the Florida journey.  It starts tomorrow!
