Lake City, FL

We took another trip into Lake City, FL yesterday to get some parts to fix a connection from our satelite to its converter box.  It all of a sudden went out late Saturday night and so after troubleshooting the problem and considering a service call to DishTV (a $90 fee) Tim decided to research it himself and discovered the coax cable was damaged and just needed repairing.  We found a Radio Shack, bought the parts and he fixed it.  It is working great once again.  Lake City is the closest "big" town to White Springs.
Lake City, FL is the county seat of Columbia County.  The population is 12,614 with a median income of $26,200 and a median age of 32.  Originally Lake City was a Seminole Village name Alpata Telephka or Hvlpvtv Tvlofv meaning Alligator Village.  By 1830 a Euro-American town called Alligator was established adjacent to the Seminole village.  The city was incorportated in 1859 and changed it's name to Lake City.  The reason for the name change?  The mayor's wife refused to hang her lace curtains in a town called Alligator so since there were seven different lakes surrounding the town its name was changed to Lake City.
The American Civil War Battle of Olustee took place near Lake City in February 1864 and was the only major battle in Florida during the Civil War. The battel was won by the Confederates with only 946 casualties where the Union army sufforded 1861 casualties.  In the early 20th Century Lake City was an important railroad junction serving 4 railroad lines.  In the 1950s Forestry had become the local mainstay to the economy.  In 1959 Lake City celebrated their Centennial and even produced a book about the first 100 years of Lake City.  In 2009 Lake City celebrated their Sesquicentennial.
Today not much is happening, everyone but Bob has gone back home and so today will be laundry day and cleaning up the RV since I took the Christmas decorations down yesterday.  I have posted our Florida journey below with where we will be staying but there will be lots of side trips.  Officially we have already begun the journey since we are in White Springs but I wanted to concentrate this first part around my friends and spending time with them.  We had a great week together and it just made our friendships even better!  Thanks to Robin, Bob, Lisa, George, Debbie and Paul for such a wonderful week together...love you all!
