Epcot

Epcot is a theme park at the Walt Disney World Resort and was the second park to be built at the Resort.  It opened on Oct 1, 1982.  It is a park dedicated to the celebration of human achievement namely international culture and technological innovation.  When it was opened it was called EPCOT Center but in 1994 the 'center' was dropped and in 1996 to present it is simply called Epcot.  EPCOT is an acronym of Experimental Prototype Community Of Tomorrow which was the name originally given by Walt Disney.  There are two sections of Epcot; Future World and World Showcase.  The park is laid out like an hourglass shape.  Both sections are patterned after types of exhibits found at World expositions.  The park is 300 acres, more than double the size of Magic Kingdom, with the World Showcase lagoon; in the middle of the World Showcase being 1.2 miles in perimeter.  Epcot is referred to as a permanent "World Fair".
Future World consists of a variety of pavilions that explore innovative aspects and applications of technology.  Spaceship Earth, Innoventions, Universe of Energy, Mission: SPACE, Test Track, The Seas with Nemo & Friends, The Land (w/ Soarin') and Imagination.  Most of the attractions in Futureworld have corporate sponsors that help pay the bills for the attraction.
Tim and I celebrated Valentine's Day at Epcot.  I think a lot of other people thought the same way.  I am sure all of the parks were busy yesterday since Lake Buena Vista was named as the number one romantic city in the U.S. this year.  It was busier than we thought it would be but we were still able to ride and see attractions with little wait except for Soarin'.  We got a fastpass for that one.  We did not do the big rides in Future World (like Test Track or Mission: SPACE) but we did do everything else.  We got to sit in the front row on Soarin' which was fantastic because it really felt like you were hang gliding.  The other rows are good.  I have been on Soarin' a lot but never in the front row.  What a feeling.  We had a great time at Epcot and thoroughly enjoyed our day.  I will be posting a slide show of Epcot later today and tomorrow I will share another slide show of World Showcase and  our experience at the World Showcase at Epcot.
