Panama City, FL

Panama City, FL is the county seat of Bay County and is the largest city between Tallahassee, FL and Pensacola, FL. The population is 36,500 with median income of $31,600 and a median age of 37. It was incorporated in 1909. The developer of the town, George Mortimer West, gave the town its name because it was on a direct line between Chicago, IL and Panama City, Panama. The very first inhabitants of Panama City were the Native Americans until the 1830s when settlers from Georgia and Alabama came and built summer cottages along the shoreline.  With each decade Panama City continued to grow.  In 1913 it became the county seat and in the 1920s the Florida Land Boom brought major growth to the area.  During World War II Panama City was a hub for the U.S. Military and has continued to be since with the Naval Support Activity Base and Tyndell Air Force Base.  The Port of Panama City specializes in breakbulk cargo and dry goods shipping.  The weather is the main attraction to Panama City with mild temperatures and sun year round.  It is  one of the top 5 destinations in Florida for Floridians to vacation at and I understand why.  It has the Gulf of Mexico, beautiful white sandy beaches and every store and restaurant you could possibly need.  It is a great place to come, have fun in the sun and relax.
