Pam's SAS Saturday's Edition And The Age Of Technology
It was a long day but a good day. Pam and I were up early to make sure we were ready for the second day of Pam's Stack and Stamp aka SAS. The ladies started to arrive around 9:00 and by 10:00 we were at full throttle working on the cards, catching up on what is going on with everyone and having a good time. The cards at the SAS were really good and everyone seemed to really like them. We cooked 8 pounds of pork lion for pulled park on Friday and Saturday combined and it was a big hit. We do have some leftovers but only enough for a couple of sandwiches. All in all it was a great success. One funny story; after everyone had left we were finishing up the cards for the card packs that she sells from the event when Pam couldn't find her phone. She started looking and then realized the last place she had put it was on a shelf over the television. She also remembered one of the ladies having to put some things from her purse on that same shelf to look for her checkbook. Well, one thing led to another and she thought that maybe her phone was picked up by her friend while she was putting things back in her purse. Now this is where technology pays off, with the new download of IOS 7 on the Apple iPhones and iPads there is an option for "find my phone". Well since Pam's phone had the recent download they did the "find my phone" option. Pam and Brian were able to track her phone and sure enough the phone was headed east on Hwy 78. Pam called the lady's cell several times but the lady's iPhone was dead because it did not download the new IOS 7 correctly. Here is where the technology really paid off. Every time Pam "pinged" her phone the lady who had it would hear it but thought it was her phone acting up. The important thing here is the "find my phone" option works both being able to know where it is but also to the person who has it that it is being sought. Pam did get a hold of her friend and we went to get the phone. After we got back from that we were all hungry and went to dinner. We went to BJ's Brewhouse but before we did they have an app that allows you to check in so when you get there you don't have to wait. We checked in and said we would be ready to be seated in 45 minutes. So, we started cleaning up from the SAS and then headed to BJ's. When we arrived and gave them our name and told them we signed in on the app we were then informed that the app doesn't really work and that there is a 45 minute wait. At 7:30, after a long day, that is not what you want to here. After questioning what good is the app the hostess said she had no control over the app but to call the corp. office to complain. Since we did try to check in on line she did push our wait from 45 min. to 20 min. we finally go our table and by 9:30 we were done with dinner and headed home. Of course there was still card packs to complete and clean up to be completed. We got the card packs done and cleaned up two of the three areas. By Midnight we were sitting and relaxing. It was a long day but a good day. As far as the morale of technology; the iPhone "find my phone" worked and the BJ's app needs more work so, technology is 1 for 1. All in all, it was still a good day!
