Healdsburg, CA is located in Sonoma County and is the commercial center for northern Sonoma County and the "capital" of wine country due to three of the most wine producing areas meeting here; Russian River, Dry Creek and Alexander Valley. Healdsburg was started by Harmon Heald, an Ohio businessman, who came to this area in 1850 and stayed at Rancho Sotoyome for a few years. He bought a portion of the ranch in 1857 and started the town of Healdsburg. It became incorporated in 1867. From the 1880s to the 1940s Healdsburg was mostly a farming community with orchards and farm trucks. After prohibition, the vineyards were planted and the rest is history. While we were in Healdsburg we did visit the Healdsburg Museum where there was a dollhouse exhibit.
We decided to visit a couple more wineries before we left this area so we went to Geyser Peak Winery and then to Stryker Sonoma Winery. Stryker Sonoma is a beautiful winery and probably the most expensive winery that I have visited. We did get a bottle of wine and it is the most expensive bottle of wine I have ever purchased. It will be a Christmas gift for someone! We have enjoyed our time in Northern Sonoma County. It is beautiful and I would highly recommend a trip here especially if you are a fan of red wines.
I hope I'm on your Christmas list, I'll except any wine.
