Navarro River Redwood and Navarro Vineyards

We went to see the Redwoods in the Navarro River Redwoods State Park about 90 minutes northwest of Cloverdale.  The State Park is located in Mendocino County and has 660 acres of second growth redwood forest.  The Navarro river runs through the forest for over 11 miles from the town of Navarro to the Pacific Ocean.  The forest is all made up of second growth redwoods due to the area being heavily logged in the 19th century.  The redwoods, even being second growth, are huge and it was fun to walk among the huge trees.  The forest was so thick and it was interesting to see how so many redwoods seem to grow in groups of three or four.  As we drove through the forest we ended up at the Pacific Ocean.  The ocean was really churned up by the wind that was blowing NNW.  It was beautiful to see the surf hit the rock structures in the water.  We took a walk along the beach which Shadow loved.  We then took a drive north along  California 1.  It was beautiful!
On the way to the redwoods we visited Navarro Vineyards that is a beautiful, family owned vineyard.
When we drove through the gates we saw rows and rows of grapes.  It is a very friendly winery and what made it even better for us is that it specializes in white wines which is our preference.   We tasted at least seven different white wines from Chardonnays to Rieslings.  We really liked them all and ended up buying a couple of bottles.  Now my wine rack in the RV is full with a variety of wines purchased through out our travels.  It was another great day in northern California.
