Wine Road - Northern Sonoma County, CA
We took a drive down "Wine Road" in Northern Sonoma County. There are 187 wineries along the way. We only visited three. The first one we visited was Alderbrook winery in Healdsburg, CA. It is a small winery that sells mostly red wines. It was a quaint little place with a nice shop, wine tasting bar and a relaxing back porch where you can sit, enjoy your wine and look at the vineyards. We then went to Francis Ford Coppola Winery in Geyserville, CA. It is located on the former Chateau Soverain Winery and it specializes in red wines. The Francis Ford Coppola winery is a family friendly facility influenced by the idea of the Tivoli Gardens in Copenhagen with a swimming pool, bocce courts, a stage, and restaurant. The winery has several wine tasting stations both on the main floor and the second floor. It also houses several of Coppola's Oscars and movie memorabilia from his movies. The collection includes Vito Corleone's desk from the "Godfather" and a restored 1948 Tucker Sedan used in "Tucker: The Man and His Dreams". It was a really beautiful winery. After we left Coppola's we went to Trentadue Winery in Geyserville which is one of the oldest wineries in the area. They also specialize in the grapes to make red wines. Trentadue was one of the first farmers to plant grapes in Northern Sonoma County. While we were at Trentadue winery we got to walk into the vineyards and really see the grapevines up close and personal. We had a great day checking out some of the wineries in the area. Autumn in Wine country is beautiful!
