Green River Gorge

Green River Gorge is located around Hendersonville, NC and is a beautiful area.  It has steep ravines, coves and old growth mixed with hardwood forests.  It has some of the best whitewater rapids in the eastern U.S.  The Green River even has a point where it drops 400 feet in a distance of 1 1/2 miles and runs through a six foot wide crevice known as the Narrows.  There is a lot to do at the gorge: the gorge runs through a state owned tract of game lands with over 10,000 acres set aside for wildlife conservation.  Hunting, fishing, and trapping are allowed in the game lands along with over 16 miles of hiking trails.  The 225 foot high bridge that crosses the Green River Gorge on I-26 is the highest bridge in North Carolina and one of the highest in the U.S.  It is a beautiful area that one day we will get a chance to spend more time and explore it.
