Castle Dome City - The MInes

Just outside the museum ghost town is the actual area when most of the buildings in the ghost town existed.  You can take a walking tour of the mines and get a sense of what it was like to live and work in the mining town.  There are over 300 mines due to a quartz fault line which allowed most of the the mines to be worked to 700 feet deep.  There were over 30 minerals identified in the mines and after exploring each and every mine there were so many artifacts for the museum that  were found.  With in the 300 mines there were three patented mines worked along the walking tour area; the Flora Temple, the Floral Temple extension and the Castle Dome.  There is a fourth mine just to the east of the city called the Hull mine that has just been acquired and will be open for touring later next year.  Walking around the mine camp and see where the actual mines were was fun.  Some mine openings were just holes dug and supported with openings ranging from three feet wide to some being 10 feet wide.  Either way, I am glad they were all roped off. I would hate to be walking in that area not knowing about the mines and falling into one of the holes.  We enjoyed our time at Castle Dome City Museum and would highly recommend a visit to the mines when in Yuma.
