Glenview, IL

Glenview, IL is a suburb of Chicago that is 18 miles north of downtown Chicago and is located in Cook County.  Population 44,655 with a median income of $105,800 and a median age 41.  Glenview was part of a farming community in the mid 1800s.  After the Chicago fire in 1871, Chicago needed to be rebuilt and the Chicago and Milwaukee railroad built a line north of Chicago.  One of the stops ran right through the middle of Glenview which allowed farm crops and dairy products to be sold in Chicago.  Glenview was named by the railroad.  At the time the railroad was built through Glenview the area was referred to as Oak Glen.  The railroad already had a stop named that so Glen View or Glenview was the new name of the stop.  Glenview began to develop and became incorporated in 1899.  Glenview is mainly a residential area with some commerce.  Naval Air Station Glenview was a major facility in Glenview until 1995 when the base closed.  The land the base was on is now a huge residential and retail development.  The schools in Glenview are excellent and Glenview has been rated as having the best schools in the U.S.  It is a great place to live.
Glenview is my hometown and we went to visit it yesterday.  I was raised in Glenview and I have so many great memories.  I had a great childhood and Glenview was a great place to be raised in.  I am posting pictures of the house I lived in, my schools and church I attended.  Glenview has grown since I lived there but there is still a lot of it that is the same as when I was growing up.  We drove past the house I lived in, checked out my old neighborhood and then visited my schools, Henking Elementary, Springman Jr. High and Glenbrook South High School.  Henking and Glenbrook South are huge compared to what they were when I attended but Springman is exactly the same.  We drove through downtown Glenview where the main street is pretty much the same but everything around it is bigger.
We had lunch at our favorite restaurant in Glenview, Hackney's.  It has the best burgers and the best fried onion block.  Of course this is my opinion but several people, from Glenview, will also attest to this!  It tasted so good and sitting in Hackneys again made me feel like I was at home.  We have been going to Hackney's for lunch and dinner, birthdays, family celebrations, etc since I was a little girl.  It was always the restaurant of choice for big family gatherings too.  Tim and I met at Naval Air Station Glenview Golf Course where I was the night manager in the summers when I was home from college and he was stationed there.  He worked a part time job at the Golf Course at night when we started dating.  The rest is history!    It was so good to be back in Glenview and it brought back so many memories.  I will always love Glenview because it was a great place to grow up and a great place to live.  It still is!
