North Chicago, IL

North Chicago, IL is an outer suburb of the Chicago Metropolitan area and an unincorporated city in Lake County.  It's population is 35,900 with a median income of $38,100 and a median age of 22.  It is home to the Great Lakes Naval Training Center.  North Chicago's census information include Great Lakes Naval Training Center.  North Chicago is also the headquarters of Abbott Laboratories, a pharmaceuticals and health care products company.  North Chicago has always been an industrial town since it was incorporated as a village in 1895.  In 1901 it was incorporated as a city and in 1911 a Naval training area was created , Great Lakes Naval Training Center.  Great Lakes is currently the only "boot camp" for Navy enlisted personnel.  In 1926 a Veteran's Administration hospital went into service.  The economy has not been good to North Chicago and most of the city is in need of revitalization which has begun along the lake front.  It has plans to revitalize the city as an urban residential area. 
Last night we had some severe storms come through the area and it rained most of the night.  The rain is needed here as this area is in a drought.  The grass is brown and dried up and it is beginning to affect some of the lakes and rivers around the area.  It has been a long time since I have been in a major thunderstorm and the lightning and thunder were pretty intense at times.  Shadow hated the storm and clung to Tim or I.  I did catch some pretty cool storm clouds over the lake last night before the heavy rains started.  All in all, we got over two inches of badly needed rain which will help with the drought.
