Yosemite National Park Part 3 - Yosemite Village

Yosemite Village is an unincorporated community in the Yosemite valley at Yosemite National Park.  It is on the north side of the valley floor and its permanent population includes the National Park Service staff and some concession workers.  There is a fire station, post office and a District Court building along with a medical clinic, general store, gift shops and restaurants.  There is a also a K - 8th grade school and it is the headquarters for the Park Service.
Half Dome is a granite dome on the eastern side of the Yosemite.  It is probably the most famous rock formation in Yosemite.  The granite crest rises more than 4737 ft above the valley floor.  Ascending Half Dome is a popular attraction and there are several different ways to climb it.  One of the most popular is an 8.5 mile hike that includes a rigorous 2 mile hike and climbing several hundred feet of granite stairs and the final ascend includes using a pair of post mounted braided steel cables.  Thousands of visitors climbs this one trail.
Bridalveil Falls is one of the most prominent waterfalls in Yosemite.  It is 617 ft long and flows all year.  The primary source of this falls is Ostrander Lake which is about 10 miles south of the falls.  When the wind blows briskly the waterfall will appear to be falling sideways.
Yosemite Falls was dry or may have a dribble of water.  Due to the dry weather it is not flowing at this time; all you can see of Yosemite Falls is the dark stain on the rock.
Yosemite Village is the most popular area of Yosemite.  It is where the Yosemite Lodge is along with a couple of other lodges and campgrounds.  It is one of the oldest parts of the park for vacationers.  The drive into the valley is beautiful with lots of pullovers to see the different rock formations, rivers, forests and meadows.  With every view you are just amazed at what you are seeing.  It was a warm and clear day so the rock formations against the blue sky were even more spectacular.  We had lunch at a Deli in the village (the only restaurant open besides the lodge) and sat at one of the outdoor tables to eat our sandwiches; they were good.   Our view during lunch was amazing which makes the sandwiches taste even better.  The one thing that surprised us was we had phone service while we were in the village.  So I made a few calls while I had the chance.  We really had a great time at Yosemite Village and we will be returning to Yosemite on Sunday to see another area of the park.
