Kailua, Hawaii

Kailua is located on the eastern side of Oahu or on the the windward coast.  It is 12 miles northeast of Honolulu and sits on Kailua Bay.  In the Hawaiian language Kailua means two seas or two currents.  It is named because of the two lagoons or the two currents that run through Kailua Bay.  Kailua is primarily a residential area with single family homes, a centralized shopping district and home to Marine Corps Base Hawaii.  It is believed that Hawaiian families have been living in Kailua for over 1500 years.  During WWII two military bases were located in Kailua but today only the Marine Corps base exists.  Kailua Beach is known to be one of the best beaches in Hawaii and is popular for body surfing and surf boarding along with windsurfing, kite surfing, kayaking and paddle boarding.  It is also home to President Barack Obama when he vacations in Hawaii.
We went to the Commissary at the Marine Corps base then checked out the shopping district and then the beach.  It was a nice day and the beach was starting to get crowded.  Kailua is often referred to as "God's Country" by the locals because it has every thing needed to live.  All I can say is Kailua is a nice town and Kailua Bay is beautiful.
