The Luau

We went to a Luau last night at Paradise Cove and it was great!  Now, I have never been to a real Luau before so I do not have anything to compare it with but I had a great time.  We started with a Mai Tai greeting and then we were greeted with beautiful flower Leas.  We then  were taken to our table for the evenings events.  After we put our things down at our table we went to check out the activities that were going on before the Luau started.  We first went over to the Dragon boats where we decided not to ride due to the line so we moved over to the 'O'o ihe (spear throwing).  Now I thought I could throw a spear but the spear decided I could not.  I threw it towards the target where it hit and fell to the ground.  Tim hit the target and it stuck.  I then went over to try Ulu maika and Moa Pahe'e (a form of bowling).  First you roll a stone between two posts then you slide a dart between the posts.  The stone for me was easy but I could not get the big wooden dowel to go between the posts.  It just kept hitting the post.  It was fun so we decided to play both games a couple more times.  After the games we went over to the Arts and Crafts area where we made lea bracelets and wove palm head bands.  It was fun and gave us more to wear.  After we were done with making the items we walked around the area and started to watch a beautiful sunset and a great view of the west coast of Oahu.  It was then time for the festivities to begin.  It started with the Shower of Flowers where a man climbs up a tall palm tree and drops flowers over the crowd.  It is beautiful and if you are lucky you can catch a flower.  Tim caught two!  After the Shower of Flowers we went to witness the Hukilau on the beach where we watched the fishing nets get thrown and retrieved by the villagers (volunteers from the audience).   It was great and the sunset in the background made it even better.  We then moved on to Imu Ceremony where we met the Royal court and then watched as the roasted pig was lifted from the ground oven.  It was then time for the feast.  The food was fabulous especially the Kalua pork! I tried the Poi which to me had no taste but the Poi rolls were delicious.   After dinner we watched a great show.  The dancing was amazing and of course who doesn't enjoy the fire dancer.  It was so much fun and I want to thank Jenny and Nathan for treating us to a wonderful Luau.  What a great night!
