Three Beaches In One Day

We were at three different beaches and each one was different.  We started our day at Tripler Medical Center (my son in law had a follow up from his surgery on his foot).  While he was at his appointment we went up to the Army Hotel at Tripler and sat on the patio enjoying the view of Honolulu and the Airport.  After the appointment we went to Hickam Air Force Base where some of  the buildings on Hickam still have the bullet holes from the Attack on Pearl Harbor on Dec. 7, 1941.  We stopped at the Headquarters building which was the "Hickam Hotel" during WWII.  3200 Airmen were living there during the attack and it was chosen by the Japanese because they figured that at that hour and the day(Sunday at 7:55 am) that it would have most of the airmen there in one place.  Seeing the bullet holes was a neat experience and just thinking that a little over 72 years ago the building was attack which got the U.S. into the war.   When we left we went to our first beach on Hickam and it was really nice.  The water was beautiful and the cabanas there were nice.  It was not too crowded either.  We had the dogs with us (Ace and Lily) and that was because there is a great Dog Beach on Hickam.   The dog beach has a big reef that keeps the water levels in the cove very low.  You can walk out in the water for more that 200 yards and still not have the water go above your knee.  Just on the other side of the reef were the shipping lanes and we watched a Navy ship and a Cargo ship pass right in front of us.  Right next to the Dog beach are two air strips  ( Honolulu Airport and Hickam's Air Strip) so along with watching the ships come in we also watched airplanes taking off and landing.  We spent a couple of hours at the dog beach then headed back to Bellows AFB where we decided to go to the beach there.  It was a really clear day so the islands and mountains around Bellows could be seen really well.  We spent another couple of hours at the beach then went home.  It was a good day for all; including the dogs!
