Hello from Clermont, Florida

Today is the first day of a two week stay in the Orlando, Florida area. We, Tim, Shadow and I left Jacksonville, Fl and drove 168 miles southwest to central Florida. We are staying at a campground in Clermont, FL and will be here until July 5th. I will focus on Clermont today and then over the next few days I will share information about the surrounding communities including Kissimmee, Orlando and Disneyworld.

Clermont, FL was founded in 1884 and is known as the "Gem of the Hills" due to its beautiful hilly landscapes. It is home to the Florida Citrus Tower which is one of the first constructed landmarks of Florida. It is located 23 miles from Orlando. The population (as of July 2007) is 13,252. It's median age is 40 and it's median income is $47,000. It is only minutes away from Disneyworld and it is a very pretty small town that has a lot of charm. It has several shops and resturants and is home to the Lakeridge Winery which grows the grapes for San Sebastian wines. The countryside is really beautiful with the hilly landscape. It is the closet thing that we will get to mountains in Florida.

So on this first day of summer, with temperture of 98 degrees with 100% humidity I am happy to be parked and enjoying life in Clermont, FL.
