Tim and I visited the Frontier Times Museum in Bandera, TX, It opened in 1933 by John Marivn Hunter founder of the Magazine "Frontier Times". He started the magazine in 1923. Later he decided to open the museum so he could share with the public his collection of western items. I have posted a slideshow of some of the items in the museum. From outside the museum looks small but when you go inside it is four rooms of items.
There are an array of different items, displays, rodeo champions, art gallery and collections of oddities. It was interesting to look at all the items. There were a few items from famous westerners: Judge Roy Bean's mallot and a traveling trunk used by the famous woman gambler Lottie Deno. I don't know Rodeo stars but there have been 8 Champions from Bandera and their equipment is on display in the Champions Hall of Fame in the museum. Some of the oddities on display are the two headed lamb, the petrified squirrel, fetus calf and mastodons teeth.
Bandera is all about Cowboys. It is a western town full of western wear shops and all that is sold in the shops is western wear or tshirts. The big Dance hall in the town was for sale but the rest of the town lived up to their reputation. You can become a cowboy or cowgirl in Bandera!
Our Itinerary is changing a bit. We are going to be leaving for El Paso tonight after dark. The temperatures have been consistently 103 -105 during the day and since we will be in the desert the whole way to El Paso it will be cooler to travel at night. So, we will be in El Paso by the morning and will only stay one day. We are headed to Alamogordo, NM on Saturday for two reasons, Jenny and Nathan, my daughter and son in law. We are so close we are just anxious to get there. I have posted my "Road song" lower down on the blog. Happy Trails!
