Going Deep In The Heart of Texas

We are going "Deep in the heart of Texas" remember that song? The stars at night, are big and bright, deep in the heart of Texas. We are headed to San Antonio, TX where we will be staying for a week.
Finding things to do in Lake Charles was a bit of a challenge for me. The State Park has three hiking trails but is popular for boaters with two rivers and a lake to have fun in. Downtown Lake Charles (Historical district) is just in the beginning stages of development. In yesterday's post I mentioned that Lake Charles is known as the Festival Capital of Louisiana and now I know why. It has a beautiful park with a boardwalk along Lake Charles (Bord DU Lac Park) that is big enough to host any festival. There is the Charpentier Historic District with beautiful old homes (privately owned) that are located near the park and lake.
We did visit the Isle of Capri Casino. We entered into a huge lobby and went up a flight of stairs and then down a corridor onto a Riverboat where the casino was. We hit the slot machines. I choose a penny slot machine and put in a $5.00 bill which I promptly loss it all in 5 minutes. Tim put in a $20.00 bill and was able to play for over an hour. I am not a gambler so once my $5.00 was gone I was done. I am not a lucky person and the only time I was up on the slot machine was when Tim would push the button to spin. While Tim continued to play I strolled around the casino checking it out. There are a couple of restaurants and a lounge with a live band. It was a nice casino but is missing the glitz of the Las Vegas or Reno casinos. We drove through the rest of Lake Charles and then headed back to the RV to rest up for the long drive today.
San Antonio here we come!
