I have always heard that everything in Texas is big and now that I am here I believe it. Texas is the second largest State in the U.S. It is 268,820 square miles and the population is 24,782,406. It bacame a state in 1845. Driving through Beaumont, TX you can see the World's largest Fire Hydrant, Gusher Monument or the Muffler Man. All huge! If you are in the Houston area you can see a 36 ft statue of the Beatles, a 50 ft Saxophone or giant Presidents heads. There is also a huge Water Wall. I will share the big things in San Antonio through the week.
We will be in the San Antonio area for a week and we are staying at a Thousand Trails campground in Lakehill, TX. Lakehill is 40 miles west of San Antonio and sets on Medina Lake. The population of Lakehill is 4668. The median income is $42,000 and the median age is 41. Points of interest in this area are Dude Ranches and in Bandera (10 miles away) there is the Frontier Times Museum. We will check it out later this week.
Today we are going to take it easy and hang around the campground. Tomorrow we are headed to San Antonio to visit the Alamo and more.
I have introduced something new to the blog while we are in Texas. While I was looking up road songs I came across several Texas songs. There are a lot so I will be featuring one song about Texas each day I am here in Texas. Today's song "Yellow Rose of Texas"; it is one of my favorites. If you have any suggestions please let me know.
