We're Rambling again

It is day three and we are on the second leg of our trip. We are headed to Lake Charles, LA. where we will be for a couple of days.
Yesterday was a full and fun day. I still have the Pensacola slide show posted because I updated with a ton of pictures. If you have already looked at it you may want to check it out again. Just a brief breakdown of the pictures; the first bunch is the origianl pictures then I added Blue Angels, National Air Museum, TT Wentworth Museum, odd attrations and finished with the Veteran's Memorial Park.
We were up early to try and get good seats to watch the Blue Angels practice. When we got to the field the bleachers were already full but one of the guides there had some space in the V.I.P seats and got us a couple of seats in the section. We had a great viewing area with narration of the whole practice session. It was great! The Blue Angels are awesome and what they can do in a jet is amazing. Their tightest formation was 18" apart wing tip to canopy. Their normal formation is 36". When they "battle" each other the stunts are about 15 yards apart. Now that is precision flying. Two highlights during this session: Donnie Cochran, a retired Blue Angel, was there. He was the first African American Blue Angel and the other was we were on the local TV news. There was a news crew covering the practice and we were on camera and saw ourselves on the 6:00 News. Another first for both of us to be on TV.
After the Blue Angels we went to the National Aviation Museum. What an impressive museum. There is a huge display of Naval and Marine aircraft from every era and war. It is an amazing sight and there is so much to take in but so worth the time spent to do so. Seeing how the aircraft has changed over the years and all the different sizes of aircraft there are was really something. The materials used, the design, construction, engineering, mechanics, logistics and training of the pilots just to get the aircraft to fly is truely an amazing feat. If you are ever in the Penacola area the National Aviation Museum is one place you have to visit. Best part, it's FREE!
After the museum we visited the Pensacola Lighthouse built in 1858 to replace the original lighthouse built in 1824. The lighthouse overlooks Pensacola Bay and is still in use today. After the lighthouse we headed into Pensacola and visited the T.T. Wentworth Jr. Museum and the Pensacola Historical Museum. The Wentworth museum was intersting and is a cross between the Smithsonian and Ripley's Believe It or Not. T.T Wentworth was an ecclectic man from Pensacola who after finding finding a gold coin on the beach made it his life long passion to collect things and he did. There were rooms full of items collected with no real reason but to be collected. His collections are very cool. Some of the items that caught my eye were Robert Wadlow's shoe (Worlds Tallest man), a petrified cat and the Coke Cola collection. In the same nuseum is the Historic museum and there were some neat exhibits too. The T.T. Wentworth museum is located in the middle of Historic Downtown District. It is a cool area that is a cross between New Orleans and Savannah.
Now to something completely different; my odd tourist attractions. We headad to Pensacola beach where we found the Pensacola Beach beach ball watertower and the UFO house. The UFO house looks like a flying saucer. The bomeowner built it with that intention and even added a space alien in one of the windows looking out at the street. It is built on stilts with a connecting ramp and if the Gulf ever reaches the house it can be disconnected and it will float. Was it worth the drive? Sure when you add a visit to an ice cream shop!
We finished the day with a visit to Pensacola's Veterans Memorial Park. The park has a miniature Viet Nam Wall memorial along with memorials to
WW I, WW II, and the Korean war. A new addition is the National Memorial to Missing Children. It is a beautiful park located on the bay front. With all the things we did the total cost for the day for both of us was $10. Ice Cream and a toll brigde; everything else was free. A Great Day!
