Yes, we are in Alamogordo, NM

Yes, we are in Alamogordo, NM. Our original plan, after driving all night, was to stop and spend Friday night in El Paso, TX to recover and then drive to Alamogordo, NM today(Sat.) Well we got to El Paso around 8:30am and Tim was feeling good and decided to go all the way to Alamogordo. Our travels for the day - San Antonio, TX to Alamogordo, NM 634 miles roughly 12 hours of traveling. The "big surprise" for Jenny and Nate? We were Alamogordo. Once we got to Alamogordo we stopped at Holloman Air Force Base to see if there were any sites available. In doing so we had to pass right by Jenny and Nate's house. There wasn't any spots available until Tuesday 8/30 so we found an RV resort near the base where we will stay until Tuesday. We got set up and then Tim crashed for awhile. I was trying to figure out a good way to suprise Jenny and Nate when Jenny called on her lunch break to see where we were. I told her El Paso. After her call I was working on how to surprise Jenny and Nate when Jenny's job took care of it for me. She works at a bank and the bank was having "Tropical Day" and passing out free ice cream. So around 3:00pm Tim and I strolled into the bank lobby. Jenny looked up and saw us come in. We got her, she was so surprised and very happy to see us. We met up with Jenny and Nate after Jenny got off work and went to dinner and spent the evening just talking and catching up. It's so nice to be here!

Alamogordo, NM is the county seat of Otero County located in south central New Mexico. The city is bordered by the Sacramento Mountains. Alamogordo has been occupied since the 1600s but became a town in 1898 to support the construction of the El Paso and Northeastern Railroad. Tourism then became its main economy in 1934 with the creation of White Sands National Monument. In 1942 Alamogordo Army Air Field was built which is currently Holloman AFB. During the 50's & 60's Alamogordo was the unoffical center for research on pilot safety and development of the United States Space program. Currently it is tourism and retail support for Holloman AFB and its Active Duty and Retired Military. The population of Alamogordo, NM is 35,600 with it's median income of $30,900 and its median age of 34.

There is a lot do to in the surrounding area of Alamogordo and I will be taking on the challenge of finding and doing as much as possible. We came to Alamogordo because Jenny and Nate but there is also a lot to see and do. A local described Alamogordo as "It's a great tourist town but a crummy place to live." We will be here for a month and here are some of the places we will be visiting: White Sands National Monument; Carlsbad Caverns; Roswell, NM; Las Cruces, NM; National Space Musuem; Cloudcroft, NM; Ruidoso, NM and much, much more. August is New Mexico Month for us!
