Oceanside, CA

Oceanside, CA is another coastal resort town bording north of Carlsbad and just south of Camp Pendleton Marine Base. Its population is 167,068 with the median income of $46,300 and a median age of 33. Oceanside area has been around for a long time and was founded by the Spanish in 1769 and used as farm land until 1823 when Mexico won it from Spain. The U.S. conquered Mexico in 1848 and took over the area. Oceanside continued to be farmland until it became a town in 1883 and by 1888 is was incorporated and became Oceanside.
Oceanside Pier which was originally built in 1888,and destroyed by storms in 1890 was rebuilt on it's current location in 1893 It has been incarnated six times since. It is the largest wooden pier on the West Coast at 1954 feet long. Tim, as a boy, use to fish off the pier overnight with his grandparents. That is one of his favortie memories. Today, it is still a favorite fishing pier to many. Ruby's Diner is located on the pier and when you walk into the diner it is like walking into the 1950's. Great food and a fun place to eat. Surfing is great both on the north and south sides of the pier and hosts several surfing competitions there.
Oceanside has been in several movies but one of the most famous is "Top Gun" with the bar and a house featured in the movie. The bar burnt down a while ago but the house is still around. The California Surf Museum is located in downtown Oceanside and Oceanside hosts a "Day of the Dead" celebration every year on the second week end of September, which is this week end. I,however, will not be attending it due to a previous engagement. Oceanside Harbor is an active harbor that hosts events and festivals almost every week end.
