Diamond Valley Lake & Wilderness Lakes

We went for a little drive yesterday to check out the area and we came across a beautiful man-made lake.  We drove to Hemet, CA.  It is a city right next to Menifee.  Hemet was founded in 1887 and became a city in 1910.  It is home to the "Ramona Pageant", Calfornia's official outdoor play.  It started in 1923 and is one of the longest running outdoor plays in the U.S.  Hemet was an agricultural area until the 1960's when it went through a large scale residential development plan.  Mobile home parks and retirement centers made up most of the development plan and was considered a working class city.  In the 1980's single family homes became the focus and Hemet grew into a larger city.  The population of Hemet is 78,657 with a median income of $34,974 and a median age of 39.
Diamond Valley Lake is located in Hemet and it is a man-made offstream reservoir.  It is one of the largest reservoirs in Southern California with 800,000 acre feet of water.  It is made up of three earth filled dams.  Planning for the lake started in 1987 with construction beginning in 1995 and completed in 1999.  The lake is a fishing only lake.  It is beautiful but if one of those dams gave away there would be a lot of homes, dairy farms and a campground affected.  We did come across a Dairy farm that makes fresh gouda cheese daily so we are going to visit that on Thursday since we had Shadow with us yesterday.
We are staying at the Wilderness Lake RV Resort in Menifee.  It is an 80 acre resort in the middle of dairy farms.  The view from our livingroom and diningroom window is one of the farms.  Let's hope the wind does not shift or we might not only will have a scenic view but a scented one as well.  The resort has several canals built through out it stocked with Catfish.  For a small daily fee you can get a fishing permit and fish right from your own campsite.  The facilities are great with two pools, miniature golf course, activity center, fitness center, tennis, basketball and shuffleboard courts, ball field, picnic grounds, playgrounds and a country store.  It is suppose to rain all day today so we will stay at the RV today and try to keep ourselves busy.  A day of rest is always good every once in a while.
