Camp Verde, AZ

Thank you to all who are thinking about Tim.  He is doing fine and we are still waiting for the stone to pass.  The medications he is taking is keeping him comfortable during the waiting process.  Hopefully something will happen today and he can begin to get back to his old self again.
A few days ago we visited Camp Verde, AZ; it is a town in Yavapai county.  It is the oldest community in the Verde Valley and is home to Montezuma Castle, Fort Verde State Historic Park and Out of Africa.  The town was founded by settlers in the 1860's but got its official name in 1865 as a military post.  Fort Verde was occuppied from 1871 - 1891.  We visited Fort Verde and its remaining buildings which consist of the homes on Officer's Row.  They include the surgeon's house, the Bachelor Officer Quarters and the Commanding Officer's home.  The museum at Fort Verde was the Forts administration building. The rest of the buildings at the fort were torn down and the wood from those buildings was saved and used to build the city buildings.  Then land was then divided in lots for homesteaders to buy and built their homes.  Camp Verde has a lot of those buildings and are still in use today.   Camp Verde is a nice little town that has an old town feeling.  The population is 10,610 with a median income of $31,900 and a median age of 42.
