The Colorado River in Texas

We are staying at the Colorado River Thousand Trails RV Resort.  When Tim told me the name of the RV resort I had to wonder about the name.  Does the Colorado river run through Texas too?  No it does not.  There are two Colorado rivers.   There is the Colorado river in Texas that runs through Texas and is not connected to the larger one and more famous one that runs through Colorado and ends at the Gulf of California.   The Colorado river in Texas is the 18th longest river in the U.S. and the longest river in Texas with its source and mouth in Texas.  The river is 862 miles long and genreally flows southeast from Dawson County (near Lubbock, TX) to the Gulf of Mexico at Matagerda Bay (about 80 miles northeast of Corpus Christi).  Colorado is Spanish for "colored red".
The Colorado River Thousand Trails is located in Columbus, TX along the Colorado river on a preserve.  The preserve lies amonng green fields and pecan groves with wildlife all around like deer and armadillo.
The deer are very tame and  wonder around the campgrounds.  Not quite as tame as the ones in Medina Lake in Lake Hills, TX but still pretty tame.  The wind has finally stopped blowing and the sun it out.  Today we will be checking out Columbus and all that it has to offer.  I hear there is a Santa Claus museum here that was started in 1915 and has nothing but Santa Claus'es.  "Tis the Season", I hope it is open on Mondays!
