Travel Questions

I have had a lot of questions about our next journey.  Where we are going, what we are going to see, why are we doing this, how can we afford this, etc.   Several years ago Tim's Mom gave us a membership to Thousand Trails.  We pay a yearly maintenance fee which allows us to stay at Thousand Trails resorts FREE two weeks at a time.  We just have to stay out of the Thousand Trails one week after staying two weeks.  The week out we stay at Military Installations.  It works well and there are Thousand Trails Resorts and Military bases across the country.  Our travels are based around the locations of Thousand Trail resorts and most of them are located in areas we want to see anyway.  It works out well and it is affordable.  Wish I could say the same for gas prices...yikes! Our membership is a family thing.  Tim's Mom received it from her mother, Tim's Grandmother, so it has been in the family for several years and we will be passing it on when we are done with our travels.  We have had the membership for about 10 years but have not been able to really use it until last June.  Which means it is finally paying off after paying maintenance fees for the past several years and not using it.
During our weeks out we try to stay at Military bases because they are affordable and also in good areas.  After that, we use State Parks and then private RV resorts.  The private resorts are very expensive and will range between $35 to $70 a night; I guess you can say it is our 'last resort'.   We do get deals through Thousand Trails where we can stay at other resorts for a discounted price.  All in all, we make it work while keeping it economical and in our budget.  The best benefit of our travels, besides seeing the U.S.A, is we get to see family and friends along the way!  Tim and I are looking forward to our next big journey and hope you will continue to follow our travels through this blog.  Today is a planning day for us where we are going to make sure we have everything we need.  Tomorrow I will be posting the itinerary.  If we are visiting an area you have been to please share us some things to do.  I am always open for suggestions or recommendations!  Happy Hump Day!
