Fishing Day 6
Fishing was successful again! We were joined by Robin's brother in law, Ken, and had another good day. I caught the first fish, a Spanish Mackerel, and it was a large one. Then I caught a small King. After that we trolled for over an hour without a bite. The State Law Enforcement Officers were out checking up on boats and fishing licenses and we were boarded. He looked at our catch and was surprised at the size of the Spanish. We checked out and we were under way again. Ken then caught a bigger Spanish than mine and later a good size King. Bob brought in another King and Robin caught a Bonita that she released. When we called it a day we caught three King, two Spanish and one Bonita. After fishing we decided to go to Schooners for dinner. Schooners is "the last local beach club" and is a great place to eat right on the beach. It is rustic but the view is incredible and their food is really good. It was originally opened in the early 60s by Kinney Strickland and was called The Beach Party. In 1985 it was bought by Jim Cannon who renamed it Schooners, named for a schooner of beer not the ship) and built it up by featuring two of the most famous local bands back then. It got so popular that the police had to direct traffic every night. In 1995 he sold it to Sparky Sparkman and Toni Davis eight days prior to Hurricane Opal hitting the area. The restaurant was hit but the new owners vowed to rebuild Schooners using all the old material and did so. At sunset Schooners shoots off a canon to mark the end of the day. If you are in Panama City, stop by Schooners and check it out. After dinner we walked the beach and enjoyed the breeze. The sunset was a bit different due to the weather not being able to decide what should be happening. It was another great day, with great friends, in Panama City Beach, FL. Today, we are golfing!
