#TBT Glenwood Canyon

During the R1BT and Repeat In Reverse Trip we saw many things that I did not have a chance to share so today I am going to blog about a part of Colorado that we drove through that was beautiful.  It is Glenwood Canyon and it is a scenic 12 1/2 mile drive on I-70 in Colorado.  The canyon stretches from near Dotsero, CO where the Colorado river receives the Eagle river downstream in a west southwest direction to just east of Glenwood Springs on the mouth of the Roaring Fork.
In 1906 the canyon provided the route of the Taylor State Road, a gravel road that was the first route for automobiles through the Colorado Rockies.  The canyon also had a railroad line that provided transportation through Colorado for most of the 19th century.
The canyon is considered on of the most scenic natural features on the Interstate system in the U.S.  There are four rest stops along the 12.5 mile drive and each one has its own beauty.  We stopped at the Grizzly Creek rest stop where we could walk along the river and let Shadow out to walk.  He was tempted to go into the river but stopped after he put one paw in and felt how cold the river was.  When we were there in April the Colorado river was relatively quiet but when we drove through it in June the river was raging with lots of white water.  It really is a beautiful drive.

We hope to be on the road sooooon, to see family. I've been in a rut, and reading all the blogs is like we are traveling with you. Vicariously, as some of our friends say about our blog. It is great to read other peoples views of some of the places we have been to.
