Beavertail Hill State Park is in Clinton, MT. It has 65 acres and sits at 3615 ft above sea level. There are 26 campsites and 2 tipi or tepees you can rent to stay in. It sits along the banks of the Clark Fort River where you can fish, swim, raft, or float.
The river is beautiful. It is blue and clear and I love the rapids flowing. The river is down now due to the hot summer and little rain so I can only imagine how it must flow when it is at it's 'normal' levels. The tipi's that they rent are big and can sleep six to eight people. They are carpeted inside and that is it. They are popular both were used last night and it got down to 42 degrees! As we pulled into the State Park we passed a campground where the Forest Fire Fighters are staying at. There is not any fires around here but they have a crew and all their supplies ready to go if something starts up. I now have even more respect for the fire fighters. They are camping in tents with no running water or electricity. There must of been at least 50 to 60 tents. Thank you Forest Firefighters.
Clinton, MT is a town in Missoula County and is about 25 miles east of Missoula. It was named after General Sir Henry Clinton, a British army officer and politician during the American Revolutionary War. The population is 1052 with a median income of $31,700 and median age of 33. It holds the Annual Testicle Festival in August. Yup, it is what you are thinking! It is a five day event that has food, vendors, live bands and ball eating contests. We just missed it!
Our drive yesterday was beautiful. We saw different terrain with each elevation we climbed or descended. Due to the fires in Montana and Idaho the smoke has created a haze over the mountains. I can only imagine how spectacular the views would be if it was not there. I have included some pictures of what we saw as we drove. Today we are headed to Newport, Washington. Before getting there we will cross through Idaho. Westward Ho!
