Mount Shasta

Mount Shasta is located at the southern end of the Cascade Mountain Range in Northern California.  It's elevation is 14,179 and is the second highest peak in the Cascades, Mount Rainier is the highest in the Cascades.  On a clear day it can be seem from 150 miles away.  It has five glaciers on it.  Mt Shasta last erupted in 1786.  It was observed by the explorer, Laperouse, who observed it from his ship in the Pacific.  It had a pattern of erupting every 600 years but scientist consider Mt Shasta to be dormant.
Our drive from Oregon to California was nice and we once again enjoyed some beautiful scenery along the way.  We passed some beautiful lakes and then we started to see Mt Shasta.  It was beautiful and left us wanting more; and we got it.  We saw three of the its four sides.  I just wish the skies were clearer.  When we left Bend, Oregon it was 25 degrees outside.  When we got to Oregon House, California it was around 80 degrees.  Quite a difference!
