Ponderosa Resort Thousand Trails

Ponderosa Resort Thousand Trails is located in Lotus, CA in the foot hills of the Sierra Nevada Mountains in Northern California and along the South Fork American river.  It has 132 campsites and several rental cabins and trailers.  The river is beautiful with rapids so it is good for swimming and kayaking.  It is a very popular resort and every campsite and rental were full.  It is not a big resort and the campsites are tight but it's location on the river makes it all worth a little less room.  It is about 60 miles southwest of Lake Tahoe and Carson City.  We  walked the nature trail and along the banks of the river.  There were some beautiful views.  One drawback, while walking past an area with a lot of brush and rocks there are signs posted about rattlesnakes.  Even in the check in package there is a warning.  If you know me  you know my one great fear is snakes so as we were walking I was watching every step.  Yes, it is a real phobia for me!  It was worth the chance though for the views of the river and foot hills.  There is even an area along the river where dogs can go swimming.  Today, Shadow will get his chance!
